A Nice Review!

It’s always nice when you see positive feedback for the club. I was made aware of a blog article about the Riverside that showed us a in a good light again. It appears Moonie was the DJ when this fellow popped in. You can see Moonie’s name on the radio in one picture and I see Rinda in another picture. So I am assuming this was the Friday before last. Nice work ladies! You can have a look here.

This weeks top 10 has some new DJ’s on the list which I think is great as more people get used to voting for songs they like. Beth Hart was a definite favourite placing on the list twice. It’s interesting that some of the old classics still place higher than newer songs. There was some data lost this week due to Second Life being, well, Second Life so please accept my apologies if your song should have been here but was lost.

So with no further ado, here is this week’s list.

1.   The Rolling Stones – Can’t You Hear Me Knocking – 211.3673 – Ray
2.   Stevie Wonder – As – 164.9780 – Moonie
3.   Jace Everett – Bad Things – 124.3733 – Xavia
4.   Beth Hart – Soul Shine – 115.1085 – Max
5.   Hugh Laurie – St Jame’s Infirmary – 104.0945 – BC
6.   Beth Hart – Am I The One – 99.0930 – Mackenzie
7.   Shane Dwight – A Hundred White Lies – 80.9728 – Catrin
8.   Carlos Santana & Rob Thomas – Smooth – 80.8838 – Graylon
9.   Curtis Salgado – Love Man – 80.7441 – Hy
10. Taj Mahal – Lovin’ In My Baby’s Eyes – 74.6153 – Lolli

A few folks have asked me how do they get a picture of themselves beside their comments. Well the short answer is you need to create a profile. It will ask you what the name of your blog is but you can choose to have a profile just for commenting. You don’t have to have a blog of your own.

The first step is to find a picture you want to represent you. Make sure it isn’t a huge picture as these take longer to load and it is such a small picture on the blog anyhow that you don’t need a big one.

A faceless avatar.

The second step is to go to WordPress.com. From the home page select sign up. This will take you to a page that says “Get your own WordPress.com account in seconds.” This page is for those of you that want to start your own blogs. On the right hand side of the page is another link called “If you don’t want a blog you can signup for just a username.” Click this and you will end up at another sign up page. Enter your SL user name or some variation of it, add your password and email address and then click the “Sign Up” button.

An email will be sent to you. Follow the instructions and you will now have an active account. When you have logged in at the top right hand corner of the WordPress window you will see your account name. Hover your mouse over that and it will give you the option to “Edit My Profile.” Follow this link and it will take you to your profile page. Fill this out as you see fit. On the right hand side of the window you will see a “Current Gravatar” (Globally Recognized Avatar) window. Under it is a “Change Gravatar” link. This takes you to a page where you can choose a number of options for choosing a Gravatar image. Use the “Upload a new image from your computer” url and it will take you to a page where you can browse your computer for the file you picked out earlier. Upload it and you are done.

Putting a name and a face to the comment.

You will now be globally recognised.

Another new feature that is being added to the blog that should be fun is a weekly music poll. Have a listen to a couple songs, click a button and you’re done. It will generally feature two songs from recently released cd’s but could pit two classics against each other. So let’s get started.

In this corner, from Southwest Detroit, we have the youngest of ten children, Jack White. With, “Blunderbuss”, his first solo album since the break up of the White Stripes, White is back loud and proud with a great cover of Little Willie John’s “I’m Shakin’.” Listen here.

In the opposite corner, we have Mac Rebbenack, better known as Dr. John. Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, John, a legendary boogie and blues pianist with an instantly recognisable growl of a voice, returns with some more of his ‘voodoo’ music on “Locked Down”.  Co-written with the Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach “Big Shot” is the musical entrant in this poll. Listen here.

Okay here it is-FINALLY. I have been talking about doing a bit of writing regarding fashion for the Riverside Blog for far too long. I did write it and lost it three times, I then gave up. I must say I find my own dorkiness very frustrating.

I want to clear up a few things right from the get go. I don’t profess to know much of anything about fashion in RL or SL, but I am constantly amazed by the content creators in SL and also by the amazingly diverse clothing worn by the guests of the Riverside. It all fascinates me, and okay to be honest, sometimes horrifies me. 😉

These articles  are simply going to be my opinions and observations, that’s it. Feel free to agree or disagree with me.

I’m going to start with a few Beefs and Bouquets regarding fashion in SL.

Bouquets:

Alpha layers: love, love , love them. I am so glad to be done with invisiprims. Now if only I could bite the bullet and stay with Firestorm, cause currently I can only wear one alpha layer and I have to be pretty strategic.  Five would be fabulous, but Viewer 2? Let’s not go there.

Skins: When I first came to SL three years ago there were a handful of skin creators, now there are hundreds. A new skin can change your whole look and I love the many choices from blue skin to bloody skin which are now available.

Makeup: Choices for eyelashes, eye shadow and lipstick, along with freckles, and moles and an endless assortment of butterflies, stars, spiders, etc. etc.  Simply great.

Beefs:

Skirt sculpts: I have spent waaay too much time wrestling with skirt sculpts, omg. Too short, too long, too sticky -outy  (that is a technical term), too big, too little. There are a few designers who seem to get them right, but if you are a smallish avi like I am, and have to edit everything,  there are far too few.

Facelights:-may I just say NO. Being blinded by someone’s facelight as it distorts the colour of everyone and everything around them is not my idea of fun. Please… just say no.

Numbers instead of descriptors:  Have you ever bought a skin with 18 versions which are numbered 1 through 18? Kind of difficult to remember that  No. 7 is the skin with the green eye shadow and peach lipstick. (Specially if you have as many skins as I do). This happens with hair, hats and shoes-you name it. Just add a descriptor, how hard could it be? Some designers do add pictures which are a help and I have gone back to where I have bought an item and taken my own damn picture so I can refer back to it. But really, c’mon!

I am sure many of you have your own beefs and bouquets, so leave a comment or IM me and let me know what they are.

Here are a few pics from a designer I really like- Trill Zapatero of Boho Hobo. ALL of the proceeds made from the sale of Trill’s creations goes to the Afghan Women’s Mission in support of the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan to fund schools, orphanages and clinics for the refugees of the Afghan war.

Cid in Boho Jeans

Boho Hobo bell bottom jeans are amongst the best on the grid.

May I say her jeans were a big big hit in certain quarters, as the fit is BUTT PERFECTION.

Same jeans straight leg version.

Do drop by her store, there is a great variety of clothing there, I have only shown you a few selections. (check out the jean jacket-terrific).

Summer Dress Black With Peacock Feathers.

This is a bit longer than I anticipated so please excuse my ramblings. I would love to hear from you with ideas, or opinions or whatever.

A Riverside Video

About a month back one of our Riverside staff approached me with an offer of having a video for the Riverside done for free. She was owed a favour from an SL video director and he had offered to do one for any club she worked in. So it was suggested that Riverside be that club. I met with Duncan Llight (Potterjim Resident) and set everything up. Over the course of one week he got all the shots he needed and came up with this video here. I think it’s great. Hope you like it!

Thanks so much Duncan!

The Riverside Date Auction for Relay For Life was another huge success for True Bluesers during this RFL season.

It should come as no surprise that once again the Riverside community has out done itself. It is becoming commonplace for the Delta family to exceed expectations and overwhelmingly surpass any goals we may set for ourselves. Maybe, it is time to stop looking at it as extraordinary when True Bluesers step up to the plate and knock it outta the park. It just keeps happening. Last night was no exception.

Soulsister Jaystack & Asher Quorzor

Soulsister Haystack with Asher Quorzor. Soulsister won a date with Asher for a $5,000 Linden bid.

Last night was the Riverside’s Date Auction for Relay For Life and on a packed Mudbug Pier with everyone dressed up and looking great we managed to raise $100,140 Lindens for the charity in about 90 minutes. Astonishing! What you may not know is that we continued to raise money after the event was over. We started the night at L$ 1,038,000 approximately. We ended the date auction at L$ 1,139,000 but our total at the end of the night was over $1.202 million Lindens or almost $5000 US. So, for the whole evening we raised L$ 163,000  or $660 US. Very impressive! Great job everyone. We thank you your incredible generosity and support.
