Someone who shall remain nameless (Ray) has been umm suggesting frequently (not nagging though, never nagging ) that I write something for the staff blog. I have been resisting as I am not a DJ, or a host and have no particularly brilliant insights into the music, however I am a HUGE fan of the blues and have been for forever. The blues has been a part of the musical landscape of my life since I was born. My father was a musical guy and loved many genres of music including the blues, which was played loudly and often in our house. How lucky can ya get?
I like many kinds of music (rock, jazz, alternative to name a few) but the blues has and will continue to be my true love .
When I was a newbie and totally lost most of the time, JudyBlues Club became my refuge. I plunked “blues” into search, and ended up there, was warmly welcomed by Judy and subsequently hung out there endlessly. One day (quite a bit later) some DJ dude began playing there. His name was Ray. I loved the music he played, he knew more about the blues than anyone I had ever known and the rest, as they say , is history. 🙂
We spent ages talking about blues and what WE thought it would take to make a really terrific blues venue and what we thought other people might like as well. The Riverside is our attempt to realize a dream really. What started out as a conversation between two people has ended up being a place where I get to hang out and listen to the music I love with people I love.
Yep I am a lucky girl. A passion shared is truly a marvelous thang!!
