A few weeks back it became evident that the Riverside required it’s own sim. We had outgrown the Mississippi Delta Blues sim. So we bought a sim of our own, called simply the Delta, and have been working feverishly the past couple weeks to get the place ready before tier came up again at the old sim. We made it! April 11th, 2010 was the Riverside’s emancipation day. The day the Riverside moved to it’s own sim. What a great day it was too.
We wanted a similar theme to the old one so that the club would not look out of place. So after some deliberation we put a small rural town together. Ann Bluxome built a wonderful church graveyard with blues folks headstones and made some awesome cotton and magnolia trees among other things. When Cidnee Cooperstone, Ann and I talked about where the sim’s design was going to go, it was funny in a way that the town of Mayberry came up a few times – with a cool blues club, of course. We wanted that southern folksy feel. I think we’re on our way to finding that.
The sim is by no means finished. It is a work in progress. There will be some shops to rent as well and possibly a home or two as well. We will have to see how that one goes. One thing is for sure we are going to continue to try and be the best true blues club in Second Life.
We opened the sim at noon with DJ Stu Brune and Pringle Puddlegum looking after the festivities for a couple hours before DJ Reverend Quar and Xavia Palmira came in to warm up the crowd for the day’s main event. Lightning Productions Stevie Ray Vaughan Tribute started at 4 PM sharp and was a great success. Our own Mac Ronas was in the show and played Robert Cray. At one point the sim held 65 avatars. The most people the Riverside has ever held to this point. While it was a bit laggy the sim held up and didn’t crash. As always the Lightning Productions crew did a great professional job and made it fun for everyone who attended the tribute concert. DJ Blujns Benoir took the stream after with Zara Mistwalker and then Piffy Difference and took the crowd till the wee hours. Check out the pictures here.
All in all it was a very successful afternoon and evening as we generated our highest traffic numbers ever. We want to thank all of the Riverside’s staff and guests for following us to the new location. It means a lot to us. There are a few bugs that will be worked out and a learning curve to being sim owners but we anticipate nothing but fun and a great community from here on in. What better foundation to build a new town on?
