Wow! What a rockin’ show that was. Buddy Guy with G. E. Smith and the Saturday Night Live Band presented by Lightning Productions was a blistering live show. For the third time in a row, the sim was full. The people were happy and the Riverside was jumping. This was another debut for them and we were fortunate to get it first.
The recording that was used was Live: The Real Deal. With G.E. Smith and the Saturday Night Live Band. A terrific live album. Allmusic Guide says:
“As close as Buddy Guy’s ever likely to come to recapturing the long-lost Chess sound. Cut live at his popular Chicago nightspot, Buddy Guy’s Legends, with guitarist G.E. Smith’s horn-leavened Saturday Night Live Band and pianist Johnnie Johnson in lush support, Guy revisits his roots on sumptuous readings of “I’ve Got My Eyes on You,” “Ain’t That Lovin’ You,” “My Time After Awhile,” and “First Time I Met the Blues.” No outrageous rock-based solos or Cream/Hendrix/Stevie Ray homages; this is the Buddy Guy album that purists have salivated for the last quarter century or so.”
As always, Lightning Productions provides great entertainment with a real professionalism. They even provide free concert t-shirts. They are worth every penny when they can fill a sim and everyone has a good time.
They will be back in two weeks for another show on April 11th. This time will be a Stevie Ray Vaughan Tribute. It should be another winner to look forward too. Mark your calendars.
Thanks again folks for a job well done.
