There are a lot of really good blues clubs and sims in Second Life but none quite had the flavour that we were looking for so Cidnee, Ann and I decided to go our own way. There were many things we discussed when we were dreaming up our project but some of the things we decided were that we wanted a sim that made you see, feel and hear the blues when you arrived, a place that had the look and the aura of blues country. We also wanted what we thought would be a very open and welcoming atmosphere combined with the best DJs and hosts we could find.
One of the main things strangely enough is that we wanted a blues club that actually played blues and while that does sound rather obvious I don’t know how many times I have gone into different blues places in Second Life and heard Nickelback or Metallica. Nothing against those bands but they aren’t blues. Maybe it’s just me but when people decide to visit a blues club I think they want to hear blues. I know I do.
So about 3 to 4 months ago we had our first meeting and the wish list was written. We set about shaping what we wanted the sim to look like. We had many discussions and it seemed like we would never finalise our ideas but slowly and surely it took shape.
Three months later we have a Second Life Group that is over 500 members strong. It’s an active and friendly group that really does love the music. The music is important to these folks and means something to them. The Riverside isn’t just a place to meet people. It is a great place to meet people that share a common love of blues. People constantly comment on how friendly the place is and how welcome they feel at the Riverside.
Community is a very important word for us at the Riverside. We want to have the best blues community in Second Life. It is not our goal to compete with other clubs but to grow the blues community in world by education, acceptance and being consistently good at what we do. We want to help people to connect to the blues.
For this reason, I thought it would be cool to start a blog for all of us Riversiders. It could be a great way to talk about upcoming events, a place for our schedule, news from the club and contributions from the RS family. Ideally, it will be a forum for all of our family to find a way to get involved in the club in other ways. The blog would hopefully have all kinds of contributions from our staff and guests. I think it could be a very interesting and effective method of growing the RS community along with the blues circle in Second Life.
So if you have a review of a concert you attended, want to tell us about your favourite blues cd, promote an upcoming blues event in Second Life, tell a story about something that happened at the RS, ask the Society a question or well anything that you think may interest your fellow Riverside family then let me know and I will help you become one of the blog’s contributors.

I love their music! – Une musique fantastique ! – Ихнея музыка изумительная!
Very informative blog and quite interesting. I decided to visit the River Blues Society Club upon reading much about the blues and the venue here.
I enjoyed he venue very much my first time there and received such warm welcomes from all there including a quite nice hostess, piffy Difference. The music was very good, as well. I researched the sim and explored it. I enjoyed the decor and nostalgic feel of the Sim.
Very good work on the blog and may you have much success with it, as well as the venue.
I enjoyed the music more than the building, that can have some substantial improvements. I had the feeling i dance in my old classroom, lol. I would also like to know the nationality of the Dj’s or at least the continent they are from. I don’t really think Blues is 100% American. Would be nice to know that the DJ’s are from different locations worldwide! Keep up the good work!
Wow you guys have to see this amazing talent! bbchez
